Ron McArthur, President, Napoleon Products
We first heard about Jack and his Fully Alive presentation from one of our senior executives attending a seminar at TEC Canada. He was inspired by Jack’s style of presentation—fast paced and very relevant. Jack’s comments and thoughts on leadership really struck a chord with him.
Since then, we have had Jack back five times to provide leadership training for our entire management team, as well as, all of our sales representatives from across North America. One element that Jack delved deeply into, which resonated with our management team, is the adage that as a leader you have to trust “FIRST” and the example of the movie
ARGO really hit home with all of us Canadians.
We received comments from our team such as –”Inspirational, just what I needed at this point in my career’; “a real framework to assist me in developing my leadership style”; and “I was learning so much I couldn’t stop writing.”
Thanks Jack for being part of our learning journey at Napoleon!

“‘Fully Alive Leadership’ supports our on-going leadership development. Any organization will have leaders at all levels of their development, from those newly promoted to those more seasoned. Jack’s message and presentation is timely and beneficial for all. He did a nice job of aligning his program to the foundational principles in our program. … His program was engaging … and an excellent reinforcement of the principles taught in our Corporate Leadership Development Program.”
Dan Goldstein, President, Page1Solutions
“Awesome presentation. Great takeaways that I will begin to use today. I believe this will significantly improve our results. My most powerful take-away: ‘Listening—being fully engaged—demonstrates respect and caring.’ This will get my people to be more productive.”
Bill Goodwin, President, Neutron Industries, Inc.
“Jack’s presentation was exceptional. Anyone who is in a leadership role can benefit from his easily implementable ideas to become a fully alive leader. My most powerful take-away is to take control of my life and become focused on what matters.”
Jeff Haas, CEO, Ideacom Communications Group, Inc.
“The past two years in business have been difficult to say the least and as we have gone deeper into the economic slowdown, the stress levels get higher. … My focus changed without me fully realizing it and that in turn threw my balance off. … I became one crappy leader for my staff and I am sure a bad partner at home. Thanks for the gentle nudge. I got the wake-up call and am working on getting back on track. Also, and maybe most importantly, thanks for making me remember my WOW! moments.”
Fully Alive Leadership
Success in leadership is all about drawing out the best – the A-Game – from those who look to us for leadership. Another way to say that is that the greatest leadership draws out the greatest follwership and that is driven by how leaders show up with followers. That impacts people’s “wanna” and that determines whether they are fully engaged, giving their best. And in this age of new and expanded uncertainty, the demand for us to be the best leaders we can be is as critical as it has ever been. Meeting that imperative is key to
“getting more of what you want and less of what you don’t want.”
Fully Alive Leadership© Keynotes and Workshops are focused on creating success. In this highly interactive environment, using stories and video, we create buzz for associations, businesses, educational institutions and everywhere people want actionable content to drive success. Be a hero – book a Fully Alive Leadership© Keynote or Workshop for your event.
Here is the heart of Fully Alive Leadership©
At root, leadership requires followership, which means that the quality of anyone’s leadership and the results they get are a function of how they affect others. Study after study has shown this to be true. Indeed, the Towers-Perrin organization (now Towers-Watson) does a Global Workforce Study every year and they have consistently found that, “The number one driver of employee engagement is the belief that senior [leadership] is sincerely interested in employee well being.” * That is to say, followers get the message through a leader’s actions that they care and that is the most powerful driver of employee
Leading In Uncertain Times
Success in leadership is all about drawing out the best – the A-Game – from those who look to you for leadership. That is all about engagement and that’s especially important in this age of new and expanded uncertainty that has both leaders and employees looking for direction.
That uncertainty can lead us to hunker down, play it safe and hope the threat goes away. That simply doesn’t work, though, and techniques that brought success in the past may not work in this new reality. The solution lies in finding new ways to lead so that your people are engaged and motivated to bring their A-Game.
Leading In Uncertain Times shows how to influence others to be fully engaged so that you achieve success in these uncertain times. Those who look to you for leadership are looking for your best and Leading In Uncertain Times will show you how to deliver.
Value to attendees:
- Learning to deal with the baseline of fear that pervades workplaces due to continuing uncertainty
- Find out how to overpower fear and draw out people’s best – their A-Game
- Create clear, compelling leadership actions for ongoing performance improvement
Keeping the Best
What if 84% of workers are looking for a new job this year?
Studies tell us that a very high percentage of employees are biding their time until they can leave for what they think will be greater opportunity. There is substantial discontent among workers and many have stayed where they are only because of business uncertainty or lack of opportunity. Some of those people might be your best people.
What if you want those people to stay at your shop?
Your A-players are, by definition, very hard to replace, so you truly want them to stay. Yet everyone is having to do more with less and often for fewer tangible rewards.
So, how will you keep your high performers and how will you keep them motivated?
That’s a challenge of our time, regardless of how well your business is performing and it is the focus of Keeping The Best.
Your high performers won’t stay any longer than necessary if they can’t get the leadership they need, so great leadership is the key to keeping those great people, and it’s the way to keep them motivated.
The surprising thing is how actionable Keeping The Best principles are for leaders. These are powerful leadership tools for keeping your best people and to influence them to give their best.
In this workshop, attendees will:
- Learn the Keeping The Best principles to keep and motivate high performing employees
- Identify what they need to do to be the best leader for their best people
- Create specific action steps for keeping their best people.
The Three Principles of Employee Engagement
Employee engagement has been the buzz for several years, especially in HR circles. It’s all about the level of discretionary effort employees are giving and the statistics are dreadfully poor. Only about 18% are giving their best, while about 20% are “actively disengaged.” That means that they are doing just enough to avoid being fired or, worse, they are causing discontent among your other employees.
The remainder are somewhere in the middle of the bell curve and it’s staggering what it costs to let them languish there. In a 2005 study by the Corporate Executive Board they found that, “Engaged employees are 20% more productive than average employees.” Translated into business results, that means that if you could get one of your average reports to shift to being fully engaged, you would get
a 20% increase in productivity at absolutely no increase in labor cost!
All you have to do is be the leader who inspires your people to want to give their best. Showing you how to do that is what The Three Principles of Employee Engagement is all about.
You see, all leadership boils down to just one thing: Influencing others to change their behavior, to give their best. It’s about full engagement of those who look to you for leadership. The trick is in making that happen.
The Three Principles of Employee Engagement are what you must do in order to get your people fully engaged and create the success you want.
Value to attendees:
- Clarity about The Three Principles of Employee Engagement that will inspire people to want to give their best
- A no-nonsense approach to driving up productivity and driving down costs<
I want to offer my personal thanks and gratitude for your support of the 109th Annual Iowa Association of Business and Industry Convention, “Iowa’s Taking Care of Business Conference.”
These are challenging times and systems and loyalties, competition and opportunities all are in a rapid state of change. We asked you to help our members to find ways to survive and thrive in the face of all that uncertainty, making our challenge to you no small task. And you hit the ball out of the park with your Keeping The Best presentation.
All of our association members know that they have to hold on to their best, most valued employees and doing so is critical to their success. You showed them in clear terms and in entertaining ways the powerful and actionable things they can do as leaders. This is about great leadership that makes it so that their best people wouldn’t want to be anywhere else and so that they want to give their very best. That will translate into enhanced success for our members, which directly supports the mission of our association. You should know that some of the most positive, most enthusiastic feedback we received from members following the convention was for your program.
You were a perfect program fit with our other speakers, like Jim Collins. Thanks again for your support of ABI.

Below are some comments received from our leaders that attended your recent presentation with our company:
“So many items that Jack mentioned hit home hard for me. Moving into Account Management (AM) is the one of the biggest changes that I have faced in a while and challenging from a leadership perspective. The most influential line from the presentation was “all leadership comes down to influencing others to change their behavior.” By hopefully changing my AM group’s behavior, I am hoping that I can prove that this team does have potential and aren’t just “cheerleaders.”

“Fully Alive Leadership supports our on-going leadership development. Any organization will have leaders at all levels of their development; from those newly promoted to those well-seasoned. Jack’s message and presentation is timely and beneficial for all. He did a nice job of aligning his program to the foundational principles in our program based on Kouzes & Posner’s Leadership Challenge. His program was engaging, a good refresher, and an excellent reinforcement of those principles taught in our Corporate Leadership Development Program.”

When it’s time for putting together programs for upcoming meetings, I have a solid speaker recommendation for you.
Jack Altschuler, Fully Alive Leadership, spoke at AWT Conventions two years in a row – we received such positive comments from attendees that we invited him back the next year!
Jack’s presentation generated some of the best feedback of the entire Conventions – not an easy feat! The keynote address set the tone for the meeting and invigorated the audience. The attendees appreciated that the message was targeted specifically to them and that they came away with new ideas and techniques they could implement in their own businesses.
Jack helped make our meetings a success. I’m happy to make an introduction.

It is with great enthusiasm that I recommend Jack Altschuler.
I met Jack when he spoke at my Vistage (CEO peer group) meeting. I was so impressed with the content and delivery that I contacted him to do a presentation at my company.
We are a small, rapidly growing company about to take on a very aggressive expansion plan. My original intent was to have Jack meet with me and my senior staff to help us with the leadership skills and planning necessary to take the company to another level. After a few phone calls, Jack suggested doing a presentation with the whole company. While not what I had originally planned, I deferred to him. Jack arrived in Syracuse around noon and spent the afternoon talking with different leaders and staff members and better understanding our business. The following morning, we brought everyone together for a 5-hour, very interactive presentation.
I explained my vision for the company to everyone and Jack took us through a process that not only laid out the leadership skills necessary for us to hit our goals but also brought everyone together for the “how do we get there” dialogue. My senior team as well as entire staff came away with a clear vision of the company, understanding of our path to success and the tools to help us get there.
There are moments when a company can draw a clean line in the sand and say we are moving forward in a new way. We had that moment and Jack was instrumental in making it happen and generating the buy-in to make it stick.
